CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday removed former MP V Sathyabhama from her organisational responsibilities, shortly after she announced her decision to quit in support of Sengottaiyan.

Sathyabhama, who had declared she would resign to back Sengottaiyan’s demand for readmitting those who had drifted away from the party to strengthen AIADMK ahead of the 2026 Assembly election, was relieved of her posts as member of the executive committee and secretary of the women’s wing in Erode West Rural district, with immediate effect.

In his statement, Palaniswami, however, did not cite any reason for the move, similar to Saturday’s announcement removing Sengottaiyan and seven office-bearers from Erode district.

With this, eight of Sengottaiyan’s supporters have lost their organisational positions, though all continue to remain as primary members of the party.

Earlier, speaking to reporters in Erode, Sathyabama had said, “All functionaries are resigning voluntarily. I am also going to resign from my post. However, I am always an AIADMK loyalist.”

Significantly, on Friday, Sathyabhama was present in the press conference addressed by Sengottaiyan. However, Palaniswami, while stripping the party posts of Sengottaiyan and seven others, spared Sathyabhama. On Sunday, after she announced that she would be resigning her party posts in support of Sengottaiyan, Palaniswami acted swiftly and removed her from the party posts.
