CHENNAI: Sports Development Minister Aadhav Arjuna, on Friday, announced that the state government will establish an Olympic Bhavan, apart from allowing athletes, who are participating in competitions within the country, to travel by flight.

Speaking during a consultative meeting with office-bearers of all sports associations in Tamil Nadu at the Nehru Indoor Stadium, the minister stated that the government is identifying talented athletes through the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) and implementing long-term plans to transform them into medal winners at the national and international level.

“The government is also prioritising sports as a means to steer youth away from drug addiction and towards a healthier and disciplined lifestyle. Strategic action plans are being prepared to ensure that more athletes from TN participate in the Olympics and win medals in the coming years,” he said.

The minister further announced that steps would be taken to establish an Olympic Bhavan in Tamil Nadu within the next three to four years. A Talent Research Wing will also be formed to scout and train promising young athletes from across the state.

“With the 2028 Summer Olympics in the United States in view, the government has already begun identifying medal prospects from TN and will provide them with focused support and training through the state sports department. Increased Olympic participation and medals from state athletes would inspire more youngsters to take up sports, marking a new chapter in our sporting history,” he said.
