HYDERABAD: As expected, certificate verification could not begin in Telangana on Saturday much to the chagrin of scores of engineering aspirants waiting anxiously. In all likelihood, Telangana government is learnt to buy time until the final verdict of the Supreme Court, slated for August 11.

According to sources in the newly-constituted Telangana State Council for Higher Education, the Council would spell out its stand on August 12, once the decision of the apex court is out.

The members are of the view that it will also provide them enough time to finish ongoing inspection in the colleges related to infrastructure, faculty and other facilities. This, they believe, will help the government plan effectively in implementation of the new Financial Assistance for Students of Telangana (FAST) scheme.

Although the acrimony persisted between the two governments over the AP State Council for Higher Education issuing a notification on its own, representatives from Telangana at a recent meeting of the EAMCET admission committee extended support to carry out the verification process from August 9.

While the AP government had already begun the process on Thursday as scheduled, Telangana officials agreed to commence the verification process by August 9. In the meeting, members from Telangana had pointed out that the staff at their helpline centres were unprepared to conduct the process. According to a notification a total of 34 and 23 helpline centres have been identified in AP and Telangana.
