HYDERABAD: Rajiv Sharma, a 1982 batch IAS officer, has been appointed as the first Chief Secretary of Telangana state on Monday. Rajiv Sharma was appointed as incharge Chief Secretary on Sunday. After K Chandrasekhar Rao assumed office as Chief Minister, the Telangana government appointed Rajiv Sharma as regular Chief Secretary.
Meanwhile, Anurag Sharma and Jasti Venkata Ramudu took over as incharge Directors General of Police (DGPs) of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states respectively on Monday. While Sharma assumed charge in the existing DGP’s office, Ramudu assumed office at the CID office, which has been earmarked as the office of the Andhra Pradesh DGP.
M Mahender Reddy, who was Additional DGP, Intelligence, in United AP, took charge as Hyderabad Police Commissioner from Anurag Sharma.
After assuming office, Ramudu said he would take measures in maintaining law and order in Andhra Pradesh. His first priority would be to make police people-friendly and bring about transparency in the administration of police department.
Ramudu joined Indian Police Service in 1981. He was born into an agricultural family in Narsimpalli village of Taddimarri Mandal in Anathapur District. He studied up to class V in the government primary school at Narsimpalli. From 6th to 10th class, he studied in the ZP High School, Bathalapalli; Intermediate in Dharmavaram Junior College; and Degree in Govt College, Ananthapur.
He has done Master’s degree in Economics from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupathi. He has also done Postgraduate Diploma in Police Administration from Leicester University UK; and LLB from Osmania University, Hyderabad. His last posting was Director General, Greyhounds, Hyderabad.
Anurag Sharma, after taking over as DGP of Telangana, said he would try to bring reforms in the police department for the benefit of both police and public. Expressing happiness over being appointed as the first DGP of the newly formed Telangana state, Sharma said he would take steps for effective enforcement of law in Hyderabad and Cyberabad commissionerates.
Anurag Sharma was Hyderabad Police Commissioner before he was posted as DGP of Telangana state. He did his Master’s in Botany from University of Rajasthan; Diploma in Forestry from Indian Forest College, Dehradun; and PG Diploma in Human Resources Management from Loyala Institute of Business Administration, Chennai.
Sharma completed his five-years Central deputation recently in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). In CISF, he has held the posts of Inspector General, South Sector; Inspector General, Training Sector; and Director, National Industrial Security Academy (NISA).
M Mahender Reddy, a 1986 batch IPS officer, took charge as Hyderabad Police Commissioner.
He said as chief ministers of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh would be operating from Hyderabad, he would have to accord priority to providing fool proof security to them.
