HYDERABAD: New districts will be created purely for administrative convenience and to fulfil the aspirations of the people, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said.

“The new districts will be formed, respecting the views of the people only. There is every possibility for addition and deletions in the proposed districts, after the issues of draft notification,” Rao told reporters after the State Cabinet approved the formation of 17 more new districts taking the total districts in the state to 27.

Earlier, the Chief Minister conducted an all party meeting on the formation of new districts. Leaders of all seven parties agreed for the need to create new districts.

Later, the state Cabinet met and approved the formation of new districts. Accordingly, the state government will issue a draft notification on August 22 for new districts. “Full page advertisements will be given to newspapers, giving full details of new districts, mandals and villages so that the people could understand the formation of new districts thoroughly,” Rao said. The new administration in new districts would commence on Dasara festival onwards, Rao said.

After the issue of draft notification, the people would be given 30 days time for giving their objections and suggestions.

People can drop their suggestions or objections before the respective district collectors or before the CCLA commissioner.

On the demands to make some more new districts like Gadwal and Jangaon, the chief minister without referring to the names said, “We have to follow certain guidelines. Each Assembly segment cannot be carved into a new district.”

The Chief Minister further said that there was no hard and fast rule that one Assembly segment should be located in one district. “Currently, the Bhongir Lok Sabha segment is spread in three districts. The new districts are for revenue administration purpose only. There will not be any problem, if the Assembly segment spread in two to three districts, post reorganisation of districts,” the Chief Minister said. On Warangal Municipal Corporation being divided into two districts, Rao said that if the people did not want it they would make changes.

Zilla Parishads Will Continue

The Chief Minister said that the Zilla Parishad chairman, MPPs, ZPTCs and MPTCs would continue till their term was expired. “The Zilla Parishad will function normally like before. the Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies.

District Cooperative Marketing Societies will also continue,” Rao said. He said the district magistrate and district session courts would continue, till the new district courts were formed.

“It will take one to one and half years to set up new district courts in new districts. I will discuss the matter with the High Court Chief Justice on this,” the Chief Minister said.
