Officials seek fresh probe after Pratap Reddy appears not to take the death note seriously

SANGAREDDY: Just days after appointing Nizamabad Additional Superintendent of Police Pratap Reddy to probe into the circumstances that led to the suicide of Kukunoorpally police station sub inspector of police Ramakrishna Reddy, the police top brass is said to have relieved him from the responsibility of the investigation.

What made the senior officials take the decision is Pratap Reddy’s remarks into the circumstances that led to Ramakrishna Reddy’s suicide without conducting a full-fledged investigation.

The very next day after taking up investigation, Pratap Reddy told the media that Ramakrishna Reddy was having family problems and is not able to cope with the functioning of police department after working in the army for several years.

Incidentally, Ramakrishna Reddy left behind a suicide note pointing fingers at his seniors, a DSP, a CI and some other lower run constabulary, for pressuring him to collect mamools, which led to his suicide.

Pratap Reddy did not take the suicide note very seriously and when the same was pointed out by reporters he retorted that a note written under pressure cannot be considered.

His remarks further showed the police department in bad light and the state police decided to make amends.Hyderabad Range DIG Akun Sabharwal was asked to conduct a fresh probe along with district officials.
