Bonthu Rammohan to be GHMC Mayor?

Express News Service

HYDERABAD:  Bonthu Rammohan, who got elected from Cherlapally division, is likely to be the first Mayor of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) after the formation of Telangana State. Though there was no official word about the choice for Mayoral candidate, TRS sources indicated that the party was considering Rammohan.

Apart from Rammohan, Rajya Sabha member K Kesava Rao’s daughter Gadwal Vijaya Lakshmi is in contention for the Mayor post. However, Vijaya Lakshmi has slim chances, sources said. It is also learnt that the deputy mayor post might go to a Muslim candidate.

“As both Rammohan and Vijaya Lakshmi hail from the same community, Munnuru Kapu, they cannot share the Mayor and deputy mayor posts,” a party leader said.

Aiming to strengthen the party in Old City, TRS has decided to give the deputy Mayor seat to a minority candidate. It is learnt that Borabanda corporator Mohd Fasiuddin might be the choice for deputy mayor post.

Meanwhile, the party leadership has convened a meeting of all its corporators and ex-officio members at TRS Bhavan on Thursday at 8 am. The corporators will be taking oath at 11 am on Thursday after which they will elect Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
