SEC Vested with Responsibility of Local Body Polls

HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Election Commission was constituted in September 2014 under the provisions of Article 243K read with Article 243ZA of the Constitution of India.

Under the said Article, superintendence, direction and control of preparation of electoral rolls for conduct of all elections to municipal and panchayat raj bodies in Telangana will be vested in the State Election Commission consisting of a state election commissioner appointed by the governor. The powers and functions of the SEC are identical to those vested in the Election Commission of India constituted under Article 324 of the Constitution in their respective domains. Currently, Nagi Reddy and Ashok Kumar are TSEC’s commissioner and secretary respectively.
