GHMC Will Desilt Nalas Before Monsoon: KTR

Minister appeals to industrialists and hoteliers not to discharge waste into nalas.

HYDERABAD:  In the next three to four weeks time, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will remove the accumulated debris from the nalas in the twin cities by spending `30 crore and works would be completed before the onset of monsoon, municipal administration and urban development (MAUD) minister KT Rama Rao has said.

Rama Rao, along with commercial taxes minister T Srinivas Yadav, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin and the officials of GHMC and HMWS&SB, inspected various nalas where huge  piles of debris got accumulated causing obstruction to the free flow of water.

The Mayor, along with the local corporators will, supervise the debris cleaning operations.

The district incharge minister along with the Mayor will have a random check when the works are under progress.

Rama Rao appealed to the citizens to cooperate with government and join hands with the GHMC in making the city clean and green.

Around 93 per cent of sewage water is entering the Musi river and to bring back the past glory of Musi River, additional sewerage treatment plants (STPs) will be constructed along the Musi stretch.

Several pollutants and harmful chemicals are entering into the nalas from Balanagar and city outskirts and polluting the water. The minister appealed to the industrialists, manufacturers and hoteliers not to discharge the waste into the nalas and warned that action would be initiated against the violators.

Rama Rao also announced that a meeting will be organised with Telangana Pollution Control Board and all departments concerned to chalk out an action plan in making a the city clean. He also appealed the households to segregate dry and wet garbage and not to throw waste in open places.

GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy and senior officials were also present.
