KHAMMAM: Yet another person died in Bonakal mandal on Friday taking the unofficial dengue toll to 21 in the district. Most of these deaths have been reported from Bonakal. On Friday, P Laxmi (35) of Ravinutala village, died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Khammam. This is the eighth death in this village alone.

However medical teams which visited the mandal claim that none of these deaths are due to dengue. They, however, said hundreds of people are suffering from dengue. Meanwhile, Madhira MLA Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka visited Ravinutala village to take stock of the situation. Incidentally, Laxmi’s death took place when the MLA was touring the village.

Vikramarka, who interacted with locals and consoled the family members of the deceased, said hundreds of people are still languishing in hospitals across Khammam. “The government is not reacting to the situation and taking proper measures to contain the epidemic. The district and health minister are not reacting to this situation,” he said. Vikramarka added that sanitation is a casualty as the government is not releasing funds for panchayats. He wanted the government to rush medical teams to the affected villages.
“I will soon meet the chief minister to highlight the seriousness of the situation,” the MLA said.
