HYDERABAD: Telangana State is yet to get its map finalised as the boundaries of the 24 proposed districts are yet to take final shape.The map of Andhra Pradesh was unveiled at the opening ceremony of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh geo-spatial data centre, held on Thursday.
“The Telangana State map couldn’t be unveiled as the 24 districts are being finalised,” said Union Minister of State for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences YS Chowdary here after releasing AP’s map.
The Survey of India, nodal agency for the National Mapping Agency of the country under the department of science and technology, bifurcated the data centres for the two Telugu-speaking states. The now separated data centres for Telangana and AP will start their functioning from Friday.
“Andhra Pradesh wing of the Survey of India will have its own office in Amaravati. The new office in Amaravati will be set up sometime next month,” said YS Chowdary, while inaugurating the data centres for each state.
The minister urged the survey of India to quickly appoint a director for the AP geospatial data centre. “Both the offices were opened on the same day. We need an independent director for AP and the survey of India must ensure this happens, soon,” he added.
“Survey of India has got potential to train youth. It has also got capabilities to retain the talented youngsters, who excelled in the field of S&T in the country. The scientists of the organisation should be more active and should make positive use of the lands under this prestigious organisation,” said YS Chowdary.
