HYDERABAD: In the sensational M Swathi Reddy's case in which a woman murdered her husband, M Sudhakar Reddy, in Nagarkurnool of Telangana, to live with her paramour, a bowl of mutton soup played a key role in uncovering the murder plot.

Inspired by a Telugu movie "Yevadu", in which a plastic surgeon gives an injured youngster another man's face, Swathi Reddy (27) hatched a plan to kill her husband with the help of her lover B Rajesh, who is a physiotherapist.

They executed the plan by injecting anaesthesia to Sudhakar on November 27. After he fell unconscious, the duo hit him on his head with an iron rod, resulting in Reddy's death. Later, they burnt his body in the forests.

According to police, in order to execute her plan of projecting her paramour as her husband, Swathi poured a small quantity of acid on Rajesh's face. Then, she informed her husband's parents and relatives that unknown persons had attacked Sudhakar. In the meanwhile, Rajesh was rushed to a hospital in Hyderabad, where doctors advised plastic surgery.

However, Sudhakar Reddy's relatives got suspicious when Rajesh (impersonating as Sudhakar) refused to have mutton soup served in the hospital. Rajesh told the hospital staff that he is vegetarian whereas the real Sudhakar Reddy was non-vegetarian.

Later, Sudhakar's relatives informed the police, who then interrogated Swathi.  After being grilled by the police, Swathi confessed about killing her husband with the help of her paramour, Rajesh.

During the investigation, Swathi further admitted that they had even met a plastic surgeon in Sanga Reddy district, before killing Sudhakar Reddy.

While Swathi has been arrested by police, Rajesh is being treated in the hospital for burn injuries on his face. Police said they would arrest Rajesh too, once he gets discharged from the hospital.

Sudhakar Reddy and Swathi were married for three years and had a child.
