HYDERABAD: Days, after IPS officer Charu Sinha was transferred from the post of director of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and posted to police training wing, the IPS circles in the state, are abuzz with what made the woman officer lose her ACB top post. And several of them are of the view that ‘strong pressure from some public representatives’, particularly from a south Telangana district, saw the transfer.
The 1996 batch IPS officer Charu Sinha’s straight forwardness in cracking a whip on corrupt officials and not entertaining political interference in the investigation against some corrupt government employees, caught accepting bribe, are said to be the reasons for her transfer to Police training as Inspector General of Police (IGP).
After AK Khan retired from the service as Director General (DG), ACB, Charu Sinha, who was given the charge of the anti-corruption watchdog agency reportedly directed the officials to go hard against corrupt officials.
In January alone, three major ACB traps took place including two cases in Nalgonda and one in Nizamabad district. In the Nizamabad incident, the accused who was caught red handed while accepting a bribe from the complainant committed suicide reportedly out of humiliation.
Speculations are doing rounds in the IPS fraternity that a public representative from Nalgonda has allegedly tried to obstruct the investigation in connection with the two government officials’ trap cases.
However, Charu Sinha went ahead with the case directing officials to finish probe by gathering collective evidence for legal proceedings. It is also learnt that some representatives of employees unions who played the key role in the struggle for a separate state have also opposed the crackdown on government employees and brought the issue to the notice of some political leaders.
Taking up old cases cost Sinha
It is also learnt that Charu Sinha also dared to clear dust from the files of some ‘almost forgotten’ sensational cases and brought them up for investigation.
In one such instance, the ACB has filed a charge sheet in a case that was almost put on the back burner.
