Pro-Hindutva, Arya-Vysya activists mob, hurl footwear at Kancha Ilaiah on court premises

Amidst protests from pro-Hindu activists and Arya-Vysya activists, author Prof Kancha Ilaiah attended court in Korutla on Wednesday.

JAGTIAL: Amidst protests from pro-Hindu activists and Arya-Vysya activists, author Prof Kancha Ilaiah attended court in Korutla on Wednesday. One of the activists also hurled a footwear at him, which narrowly missed him, while another activist prevented his vehicle. Chaos prevailed until he left the court premises. Police shielded him to avoid further untoward incidents.

While entering the court and exiting the court, Ilaiah faced similar protests from Arya-Vysya community activists. He was attending court related to a case filed by a person alleging that Prof Ilaiah hurt the self-respect of Arya-Vysya community through his writings in the controversial book ‘Komatollu Samajika Smaglarlu.’

Based on the complain made by local persons, M Jagan Judicial Magistrate of First Class, Korutla court summoned Ilaiah. He would have attended on November 17 but the court rejected his appeal. Based on the  court’s direction, he attended the court on November 22. However, the magistrate adjourned the hearing to November 27.  

Earlier, Ilaiah, who stayed at a private lodge in Jagtial district headquarters, while proceeding to Korutla agitators protest lodge where he stayed last night. He tried to garland Ambedkar statue, in the wake of protesters gathered in large numbers and raised slogans against him.
