KHAMMAM: The ruling TRS backed Telangana Boggu Gani Karmika Sangham (TBGKS) though captured 9 out of 11 divisions in the coal belt area in the election for the recognised union in Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), held on Thursday, its victory margin has come down.

During the 2012 elections, the TBGKS won with a majority of 6,587 votes, whereas this time,  the victory margin of the TBGKS is 4,217 votes. The TBGKS got 23,311 votes with a vote share of 38.69 per cent in 2012 polls. This time, it got 23,848 votes and percentage wise it is 45.4 per cent.

The Opposition backed AITUC, which is affiliated to the CPI, which stood in the second position in the Singareni polls, managed to win just two divisions, now. But, the vote share of the AITUC has increased when compared to the 2012 election. During the 2012 polls, AITUC had got 14,724 votes and its vote share percentage was 27.76, whereas this year it got 19,631 votes with a percentage of 37.37 vote share. The reason for the increase in the vote share of the AITUC is its alliance with other trade unions belonging to Congress and TDP.

In fact, out of the 52,534 total voters, 49,877 voters exercised their franchise in polls held on Thursday. Of 49,877  polled votes, Telangana Boggu Gani Karmika Sangham (TBGKS) got 23,848 votes, whereas AITUC alliance secured 19,631 votes. Thus the victory margin of TBGKS is 4,217 votes against AITUC, this time.Out of 11 divisions, AITUC won in Mandamarri and Bhupalapalli, whereas the TBGKS captured Srirampur, Bellampalli, Ramagundam-1,2 and 3 areas, Kothaguem area, Kothagudem corporate area, Manugur and Yellandu divisions.

Following TBGKS victory, not only its members in the SCCL but also TRS cadres are celebrating the victory across the Singareni area. Taken aback by the humiliating drubbing in the Singareni polls, Opposition backed AITUC leaders are unable to understand how TBGKS had won the election. Not only AITUC leaders, but also Congress affiliated INTUC and TDP affiliated TNTUC leaders, who had supported the AITUC in the polls, are unable to digest their defeat as they were very confident of winning.
Khammam MP Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy and Kothagudem MLA Jalagam Venkata Rao, both belonging to TRS, said employees had kept their faith on Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

AITUC leaders alleged that due to spending of huge money by the ruling party, TBGKS had won the election. CPI state joint secretary K Sambasiva Rao said, “The ruling TBGKS and TRS have spent around `300 crore on Singareni polls. Singareni elections’ have never seen such huge spending of money by the ruling party. TRS has polluted the union election by spending money.”He also alleged that TBGKS and TRS leaders had lured employees by offering huge amounts including gold ornaments. Congress party leader and former minister Vanama Venkateswara Rao claimed that TBGKS leaders had threatened employees and forced them to vote for its side.
