HYDERABAD: An Indian Gaur that fell into an open agriculture well in Atmakur mandal of Warangal (Rural), Telangana was rescued by the forest department officials on Friday. The wild animal is on the prowl in the villages of the mandal since the past few days and had injured a farmer seriously when he went to his agriculture fields.

Locals of Penchakalpet village heard loud noises from the agriculture well Friday morning when they went to fields and noticed the Gaur in it. They alerted the forest officials who dispatched rescue teams from Warangal and Hyderabad to bring the animal to the ground.

Using cranes and ropes, forest officials brought the animal out of the well.

Veterinarians said that the animal had no fractures but suffered a minor injury on its jaws.

The Gaur was shifted to Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad for treatment.

The lone male Indian Gaur is said to get isolated from its herd and is straying into fields in search of food and water, officials said.
