HYDERABAD: Justice Thottathil Bhaskaran Nair Radhakrishnan has been appointed Chief Justice of Hyderabad High Court for the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Presently, he is serving as the Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court. He has to assume office on or before July 16.
In this regard, the Government of India issued notification on Sunday stating that the President of India, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, had transferred Justice Radhakrishnan as Chief Justice of Hyderabad High Court.
The Supreme Court collegium which met in the second week of Jan this year, recommended to Central government the name of Justice Radhakrishnan.
The Centre recently gave its approval to the same and forwarded it to the President of India for consent.
It is learnt that the present Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan who has been in the post from July 2016 will continue here as a judge till his elevation as the Chief Justice of another high court.
Radhakrishnan was born in 1959 to late N Bhaskaran Nair and late K Parukutty Amma, who were practising advocates in Kollam, Kerala. He has an LLB degree from Bangalore University.
He enrolled at the Bar on Dec 11, 1983 and practised in Thiruvananthapuram. He was elevated as judge of Kerala High Court in Oct 2004 and was the Acting CJ of the Kerala High Court twice before his elevation as the CJ of Chhattisgarh High Court on March 18 last year.
It may be recalled that the Bar associations of both AP and Telangana states have been demanding the Centre for appointment of a regular Chief Justice to the Hyderabad High Court for more than a year.
