KARIMNAGAR: The office of the Special Deputy Collector (SDCO), the designated land acquisition officer, of Pranahitha-Chevella project, which is now redesigned as Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme,  here saw some dramatic scenes play out on Tuesday as the local civil court staff reached the premises and seized furniture and other equipment.

The court, earlier in the day, ordered seizure of the furniture of the office as the officials failed to pay compensation to a farmer for land acquired from him.  Officials of the collector’s office who got a whiff of the news, locked the special deputy collector’s room, computer room and other files rooms and fled.

In what is a 35-year-old case,  30 guntas of land belonging to M Venkatesham was acquired by SRSP project officials.  Venkatesham has been running from pillar to post to get the compensation for his land since 1983. After he approached the court, he got Rs 39,000 from the SDCO while the remaining Rs 2.20 lakh is  yet to be paid.

Such acts amount to contempt of court. And I will bring this to the notice of the court and appeal to the court to take stringent action against the officials Venkatesham, farmer
