HYDERABAD: The CBI has petitioned the Special Court for CBI cases seeking permission to conduct a ninhydrin test on the letter written by YS Vivekananda Reddy before his death in order to find out if the fingerprints on the letter match those of the accused.

The test will involve spraying the letter with a ninhydrin solution to allow the chemical to interact with the amino acids in the fingerprint residue.

On February 11, 2021, the CBI forwarded the letter found at the crime scene to the CFSL laboratory, which stated that the letter was prepared under pressure by Vivekananda Reddy.

Pointing this out, the CBI urged the court to take note of the fingerprints of the accused on the letter. The CBI further asked the court to replace the original letter with a colour photocopy in the event that the original letter suffers damage during the ninhydrin test.

After hearing from the CBI’s attorney, the judge instructed the accused to respond to the CBI’s plea and adjourned the case to June 2, 2023.
