HYDERABAD: In a suspected pre-planned murder, senior advocate Khaja Moizuddin (63) was killed after a speeding car rammed him outside his residence in Shantinagar under the Nampally police station limits on Saturday morning.

Moizuddin had been practising law at the High Court and City Civil Court for the past 35 years.

According to Nampally Inspector Saidulu, Moizuddin had come out to his car and was preparing to leave for a swimming pool when an unidentified vehicle struck him at high speed.

“Upon learning about the incident, family members rushed outside and found him lying on the road. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed while undergoing treatment,” the inspector said.

Police formed special teams to trace the vehicle involved in the incident. “The vehicle did not have number plates either at the front or rear,” the inspector added.

Secunderabad DCP Rakshitha Krishna Murthy said police were examining CCTV footage and that the preliminary assessment suggested it appeared to be a murder.

This was sixth attack on him, claims victim’s son

Speaking to the media, Moizuddin’s son Farhan alleged that the attack was carried out by persons against whom his father had been fighting legal battles.

Farhan told reporters that he suspected Mujahid Alam Khan and his father Mahboob Alam Khan to be behind the attack. He alleged that his father had accused them of involvement in encroachment of Waqf properties.

Pursued cases in alleged Waqf land grab issue

Farhan claimed that Moizuddin had been pursuing cases relating to the alleged privatisation and illegal occupation of Waqf institutions and public properties meant for minorities and underprivileged sections.

Farhan further alleged that this was the sixth attack on his father. According to him, Moizuddin had earlier been assaulted at his office in Gunfoundry, outside a mosque after morning prayers and at other locations. He also claimed that the family had received repeated threat calls.

He alleged that around six months ago, Mujahid Alam Khan had come to his office in Himayathnagar and threatened him with dire consequences if his father continued pursuing the cases.

Expressing concern for the family’s safety, Farhan said even advocates were not being protected and demanded strict action against those responsible.

Police said efforts were under way to identify and apprehend the accused.
