HYDERABAD: Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on Friday said that the government has decided to regularise housing sites under 500 sq. yards within a month.

In a press statement issued here, the minister said that the government has issued a memo in this regard for the benefit of poor people who are in possession of government land.

He said it is the seventh decision taken by the government to ease the woes of people affected by Section 22-A of the Registration Act.

The minister directed officials to be vigilant in view of the “irregularities” that had come to light while implementing GO 59 under the previous government. “Thoroughly examine the beneficiaries’ eligibility and the area to be regularised before taking a decision, and re-examine the conveyance deeds already issued,” he said.

Asserting that the present government is resolving issues of the people one by one, Srinivasa Reddy averred that applications filed earlier were kept pending for years and people were forced to make frequent visits to government offices.

The minister reminded the public that the government had formed a committee to look into the problems relating to Section 22A within 24 hours of making an announcement on the floor of the Assembly. “So far, memos have been issued to resolve land issues under GO 118, GO 76, sites for which permissions have been granted by GHMC, HMDA, DTCP and municipalities, ULC lands and NALA lands for which conversion fees have been paid,” he said.

Alienation of assigned lands

Earlier in the day, the minister held a review meeting with officials on the ongoing land survey in the state.

Later, speaking to reporters, he said the government is taking action against the alienation of some assigned lands in Yerravalli village. “If assigned lands have been encroached upon in violation of regulations, they will be distributed to the poor,” he said.

He also said that the land survey will be completed in the next one and a half years. “The goal of this exercise, taken up after 125 years, is to create a dispute-free Telangana,” he said.
