Prashanth, who was last seen in the underwhelming Saagasam, has signed his next, Johnny, to be produced by his producer-father Thiagarajan. Directed by newbie Vetriselvan, who previously assisted Jeeva Shankar, the film takes inspiration for its title from Rajinikanth’s yesteryear blockbuster. According to sources, the makers have sought permission from the original team to use the name.

Mumbai-based Ananya Soni has been brought on board for this film. In an interview with CE a while ago, Thiagarajan had shared that Prashanth will also be making his Bollywood re-entry with the remake of the Vijay Antony-starrer Naan.

He’d said, “Vijay Antony and I acted in Yaman together, and we became good friends eventually. Before he approached me with an offer to act in Yaman, I had obtained the Hindi remake rights of Naan.”
