HYDERABAD: To check air pollution problem and promote clean air in the city, the Telangana government is planning to set up Hyderabad Clean Air Authority on the lines Tokyo Clean Air Authority, municipal administration minister K T Rama Rao has said.
Tokyo Clean Air Authority has achieved a remarkable success in tackling air pollution in Japan resulting in clean air conditions.
Expressing concern over alarming increase in air, water and noise pollution in Greater Hyderabad limits on the floor of the Assembly on Tuesday, members called for immediate measures to check pollution.
Admitting that the pollution levels in the city are a cause of concern, Rama Rao on the request of MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi agreed to convene a meeting of city MLAs shortly to discuss ways and means to tackle pollution.
As many as 1,545 polluting industries were identified as red and orange category and would be shifted out to 17 locations on the outskirts of the city in a phased manner. The water quality of 17 out of 19 tanks has been monitored by the Telangana State Pollution control Board (TSPCB). It indicates that the water is contaminated due to discharge of untreated sewage, he said.
