The serious ‘business’ of photography

Suri’s photography is a collection of realistic images that stay away from abstraction.

His is an enviable resume. Heading corporate marketing and business process functions at Interarch Building Products Pvt. Ltd, Ishaan Suri did his Bachelors in Business and Economics from the London School of Economics, followed by a stint at the University of Rochester. None of those fancy business degrees came to use in his latter years when he, like many others, decided to chuck the files and carry his camera wherever he went. Now, this self-trained photographer presents his exhibition titled, Carpe Diem, including 45 of his new works.

“My photography is a blank canvas with combinations of passion that stems from years of training in instrumental music, the performing arts and creative arts, that have come together today under a modern world of advanced digital imaging. I never shoot with a future goal or final concept in mind. I shoot what I’d like to remember in my later years. I believe, its not possible to photograph something that doesn’t talk back to you—be it a person or a place,” says Suri.

Suri’s photography is a collection of realistic images that stay away from abstraction. “I will try abstraction if I find a good opportunity but for now I am enjoying experimenting with other genres,’’ he says adding, ‘‘It may sound strange at first, but there is nothing in particular that I’d like to capture. The only important thing for me is that it should connect with me. If that happens, it becomes my muse,” he says.

There was, however, one thing that Suri always wanted to shoot which he did recently—the lunar eclipse. ‘‘Safe to say, it’s one of my most satisfying pieces of work,” he says.
