Of Diplomacy and Instant Noodle

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s blitz on Balochistan has aroused people’s curiosity about his next course of action and steps in the long term. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has been facing a flurry of queries on how it will support the Balochistan cause, if it will support a Balochi government in exile or back individual Balochi leaders across the globe. A harried MEA spokesperson and novelist Vikas Swarup put a stop to inquisitive journalists by saying: “Diplomacy is not instant noodles. As Yechury could not go, the Parliamentary delegation cancelled its trip. Brinda did make the trip.

Union Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dave believes that the government is wrong when it uses words such as “saving” and “protecting” the Ganga river. He says the usage needs to be corrected to “serving” the Ganga as “the holy river is like our mother and you can serve her, not save her”.
