NALGONDA: The 12-day Krishna Pushkarams has come as a blessing in disguise for several government schools across villages on the banks of Krishna River in Telangana.
Not only will some of them get RO plants for water purification, the schools which lack proper kitchens for preparation of mid-day meals will also now have kitchens. The district administration has decided to utilise the fabrication material and iron sheets, which were used for erecting temporary sheds, changing rooms and washrooms at Pushkar ghats for constructing kitchen rooms in government schools. In the absence of proper kitchen rooms in schools, mid-day meals were prepared in unhygienic environment.
As part of arrangements at various ghats, the administration had decided to arrange RO plants and Sintex tanks for providing drinking water to devotees. Simultaneously, fabricated sheets were used to make arrangements for changing rooms, toilets, medical centres and other purposes.
“All this will now be used as school infrastructure,” an official said. District Collector P Satyanarayana Reddy took the initiative to dispose of the material in a manner that would benefit the needy.
Over 1.65 crore in Mahbubnagar and 71.49 lakh in Nalgonda and 1.95 crore in Andhra Pradesh attended the river fest. Reddy has directed special officers and incharges at the ghats to take steps to remove the sheds after completion of Pushkarams and shift them to storerooms.
“After getting proposals about kitchen sheds, toilets from schools and Anganwadi centres, a team of officials will inspect the schools and Anganwadis, and the material will be distributed accordingly,” the officer said.
