Delhi restaurants push boundaries of flavours

The Drunken Botanist in Gurgaon boasts of an extensive menu that combines authentic Indian cuisine with different accents from around the world.

NEW DELHI: Restaurants and chefs across the world are pushing culinary boundaries with their own twists on classic dishes, making way for a new wave of hybrid cuisines. However, toying with the Indian flavours is no child’s play. Luckily there are plenty of restaurants in Delhi that have gone the fusion way and have tickled our taste buds.

The Drunken Botanist at DLF Cyber City in Gurgaon boasts of an extensive menu that combines authentic Indian cuisine with different accents from around the world to bring you a unique and enjoyable experience.

A hot favourite here is an eclectic blend of Mexican and Indian food — Chola Bhature Tacos. The other popular dishes include Laal Maas Ravioli, Dosai Cornetto, Cold Japanese Ramen etc.

“When we were launching the menu we wanted to give a makeover to street food. Customers love the combination of Mexican twist with Indian classic dishes. There are times when guests don’t want to indulge in anything very heavy, so we have come up with some small comfort foods,” said the restaurant’s executive chef Chanchal Datta.

“We have many unique dishes at our restaurant. One of them is Dosai Cornetto,” said Satya Singh, restaurant manager.  Dosai Cornetto is Dosa folded into a cone with chicken Chettinadu filling and topped with coconut chutney.  

Their speciality dish Lal Maas Ravioli combines pasta with mild saffron cream. The latest addition to the menu is the Botanist Potted Idli —stuffed with coconut chutney and sambar and topped with delicious “south Indian masalas”.

“I had a good time thereafter a hectic workday. What I liked there are the quirky items on the menu combined with great ambience,” said Navya Mendiratta, business associate manager at D for Delhi
“I have been here four times and I never fail to order their dish called Who Burnt the Forest’ Salad — an interesting combination of eggs, roasted kale, peach and Californian grapes. My friends love this dish too,” said Bhavnoor Kaur, a 17-year-old student.
