Good humour communicates well: Jiri Menzel

The Czech director points out that Charlie Chaplin is being remembered worldwide while many of his contemporaries are not

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Good humour is real and it easily communicates with the audience, said noted Czech director Jiri Menzel who was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award at the IFFK. 
In a conversation with Shivendra Singh Dungarpur here on Saturday, Menzel said he likes comedy movies. Menzel recalled Otakar Vavra, his mentor and teacher of film school of FAMU, Prague as a great source of inspiration behind his creative endeavours. 


He pointed out that Charlie Chaplin is being remembered worldwide while many of his contemporaries are not. Films with real comedy remains in the minds of audience. Terming theatre his friend and film his wife, Menzel said he wanted to act with theatres and accidentally became a director.  


Symposium on censorship 
Noted director Shyam Benegal will address the symposium on censorship at IFFK on Sunday. The P K Nair Symposium on Censorship to be organised at Hotel Apollo Dimora, will be attended by Rakesh Sharma, Pankaja Thakur, former CEO of Censor Board, Anjum Rajabali, former censor board member, Deepa Dhanraj, B Unnikrishnan, V C Harris and Jayan Cherian.

It will be moderated by C S Venkiteswaran. Tribute to actors Kalabhavan Mani and Kalpana and scriptwriter T A Rasaq will be held at Kairali theatre at 6.30 pm as part of which the book ‘Pin Nilavil’ will be released. Folk songs by Kuttappan and a folklore fest will be organised at Tagore theatre at 7.15 pm.
