TIRUVANANTHAPURAM :  The online registration for the new batch of courses equivalent to Classes X and XII, being offered under the aegis of Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority, has begun.  Fisheries Minister J Mercykutty Amma on Monday inaugurated the state- level launch. “Those who discontinued their studies mid-way will get the opportunity to pursue higher studies following the government’s recognition of making the course equivalent to Plus Two,” she said.

“Age and living circumstances are no bar for learning,” said Mercykutty, while appreciating those who got admission to undergraduate courses after clearing the Plus-Two equivalent examinations. Director of Literacy Mission P S Sreekala presided over the event. The government had issued the order making the courses equivalent to Class X and higher secondary last month.

The courses include humanities and commerce streams. The number of applicants has been increasing; last year, it was 32,794.Applications are now invited for the fourth batch. At present, a total of 373 centres are functioning in the state. The highest number of students are enrolled in Malappuram. Though the literacy mission oversees the classes of the courses, the exams, valuation and results will be overseen by the Higher Secondary Board.
