Amarnath cloudburst: 16 dead, over 40 missing; rescue operations underway

At least 16 people died and more than 40 are reported missing after a cloudburst near Amarnath in Jammu and Kashmir on July 8. 15,000 stranded pilgrims have been shifted to the lower base camp of Panjtarni. Rescue operations began immediately by the Border Security Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police and disaster management agencies. Following the tragedy, the Amarnath Yatra has been suspended.
