Amit Shah on Wednesday promised to withdraw cases against Gorkha community leaders, if BJP comes to power in Bengal. Many of the community leaders have been booked for involvement in violent protests in the past. The issue relates to the demands of Nepali-speaking Indians in the Darjeeling hills for a separate state of Gorkhaland. The region witnessed several violent agitations took place till as late as 2017
