Mumbai-origin British author Salman Rushdie stabbed during event in US

Indian-born British-American novelist and author of 'The Satanic Verses' Salman Rushdie was stabbed at a literary event in New York, US, on July 12. The 75-year-old author, who was stabbed in the neck and abdomen by the assailant on stage, is on a ventilator with a damaged liver. He's likely to lose an eye. Salman Rushdie is a British citizen of Indian origin living in the US for the past 20 years. He has faced Islamic death threats for decades over his 1988 book, The Satanic Verses. The novel was considered by some clerics as disrespectful to the Prophet Mohammed.
