James Earl Carter Jr. was an American politician and humanitarian who served as the 39th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981. Post-presidency, Carter's foundation, which was founded by him and his wife has assisted in peace negotiations, monitored elections, and provided treatment for neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his humanitarian efforts.
