Polavaram cofferdam works to start in a week

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to start the works of the cofferdam to come up down stream of the Polavaram project this week.    He also wanted the officials to finalise the tenders for spillway works and spill channel by December 15.

The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of Polavaram dam and other irrigation projects at the Interim Government Complex in Velagapudi on Monday.

He informed that Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari had told him that the Polavaram project has the potential to contribute water to Tamil Nadu. He instructed officials to take up the consequential study. Nine of the other irrigation projects are ready for inauguration, and the dates will be confirmed soon.

The projects are Yerracalva project, Pogonda Reservoir, Pedapalem LI Scheme, Chinasana LI Scheme, Marala Reservoir, Cherlopally Reservoir, Owk Tunnel, Gorakallu Reservoir and the Siddapuram LI Scheme. He said out of 7,000 check dams to be built across the State, 3,020 have been constructed so far.
