ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is preventing foreign journalists and other visitors from getting close to the house of slain al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden ahead of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Abbottabad police officer Mohammed Arif said on Friday that several foreigners, including a Danish diplomat and two French journalists, were briefly detained this week in Abbottabad before being allowed to return to the capital, Islamabad.
Foreigners in Pakistan have been subject to greater scrutiny since the U.S. raid on Laden's hideout in May.
The operation triggered embarrassing questions over how the CIA was able to track him down without the knowledge of Pakistani authorities.
There have been no formal instructions to media organizations prohibiting their travel to Abbottabad.
