SANAA: At least 10 tribal militiamen loyal to Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi were killed by a US drone strike in northern Yemen, militias representatives said on Tuesday.

The militants from the Popular Resistance, a militia that opposes the Shia Houthi rebel movement, were travelling in three vehicles when they were bombed in the region between the provinces of Saada and al-Juf.

It was not known whether the drone attack was conducted by mistake, as Washington has consistently expressed support for Hadi and the forces that support him, which include the Popular Resistance.

If the militants were believed to be linked to Al Qaeda, however, the US would nonetheless consider them viable targets.

Amid the ongoing conflict between Houthi rebels and forces loyal to Hadi, the US has maintained drone strike attacks against Al Qaeda operatives in Yemen.
