BANGALORE: Kannada Ithihasa Academy (KIA) is conducting a two-day seminar from March 25 at the Kannada Sahithya Parishad in Bangalore. The seminar will be inaugurated by archaeologist S K Joshi of Dharwad.

Speaking to the press, Deva Konda Reddy, member of Kannada Ithihasa Academy said, “This kind of event is very essential as it creates awareness among the younger generation about the importance of historical places.” Reddy said that due to the lack of maintenance, hundreds of forts have been ruined either due to the growth of wild bushes or illegal encroachments, hence the Government should encourage corporate bodies to take up the responsibility of protecting forts.

Likewise, the National Service Scheme (NSS) can be used for the protection of historical monuments and to bring in awareness on their importance. Even the Village and District Panchayat should improve the historical forts and the State Government should establish an authority to protect and develop them as tourist spots,” he said.
