THE Madras Terrance House, that has emerged as one place in the city to accomadate and flourish artistic and cultural expression, has an interesting pallete of events planned for this month. One such event is The Madras Terrance House Music festival.
The festival, which commences on December 19, covers a variety of areas from photography to cinema. On December 19, a photography exhibition of the Maestros of Carnatic Music and the Legendary Divas of Indian Dance will be inaugurated. The photographs include those of Palani Subramania Pillai, TN Rajarathinam Pillai, Ariyakkudi Ramanuja Iyengar, Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer, GN Balasubramaniam, Tiger Varadachariar, Musiri Subramania Iyer, T Balasaraswathi, Palghat Mani Iyer and MS Subbulakshmi. This will be on till December 31, everyday between 11 am to 7 pm.
On December 20, A talk by Sriram V — At Home with Musicians, will be followed by a question and answer session, at 11 am. Aimed as a light hearted account of the various houses, house huntings and fancies about the houses of the musicians of the last century, the signature Sriram talk will bring hitherto unheard of those delectable details on the theme.
December 21 will see a documentary film screening of Aarar Asaipadar (Desired Melody), followed by a session with the Director, Prasanna Ramaswamy. The film unravels the grandeur and magnificence of Carnatic music through the exposition of Sanjay Subrahmanyan's extraordinaryily creative style and rendering, information on his training, reminiscence about his teachers, a session with a Nadaswaram Maestro through a motif of travel. This would take place at 10.30 am.
A musical discussion with Sandeep Narayan and Swarna Rethas will be held on December 28 at 10.30 am. The two young but established musicians, both disciples of Sanjay Subrahmanyan, will bring alive the songs that they have listened to from the Masters, interspersed with their comments and observations. Both will sing without accompaniments.
The festival will conclude with, Fusic — a Festival of fusion music by performers like Oxygen, Metronome comprising of members of Zinx, River, G Ramanathan, The Saxfusionista, Raga Roll and others, will be held on December 27 and 28 at 7.30 pm.
