PALAKKAD: The Government will constitute a technical committee to study the causes for the breach of bank of Moolathara regulator- cum-bridge to suggest measures to avoid such incidents in future, said Water Resources Minister N K Premachandran . The Minister was speaking after visiting the Moolathara dam site on Sunday evening.
He said that Tamil Nadu had intimated that the waters of the Aliyar dam would be released.
The shutters of the Moolathara dam was also opened partially but it failed to contain the waters.
Premachandran said that the maximum water-level of the Moolathara dam was just 12 feet. "If this was the situation in such small dams, what would be the result if there was a huge inflow into larger dams. This incident justifies Kerala's concern over the safety of dams", he added. He said that the farmers who suffered losses would be compensated.
