The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) is likely to declare the Plus Two results by the last week of May.

Announcing this, CHSE Chairman Basudev Chattoi said though the Council officials had hoped to declare the results earlier, the evaluation process got delayed due to the elections. Last year also the results were declared around this time.

Chattoi said evaluation of answer-sheets will be completed by Saturday. About 20 lakh answer-sheets are being evaluated by more than 10,000 evaluators.

This year, the number of malpractice cases has doubled in comparison to last year. More than 4,300 malpractice cases have been registered this year against around 2,600 cases in 2013. Chattoi attributes this steep rise to stringent invigilation by the squads.

Though last year, the Council had decided to allow each student booked for malpractice a chance at a hearing by a special committee, no such thing was done this time. Instead, CHSE uniformly penalised all the students caught cheating by cancelling their papers for which they were booked.

This year, new guidelines will be formulated to deal with the unfair practice cases. The Council officials are trying to expedite the processing of such cases so that the students do not suffer.

Senior CHSE officials said each student will be penalised according to the gravity of the offence. The quantum of punishment will be decided at CHSE’s board meeting, next week.
