VIJAYAWADA: The AP Chamber of Commerce and Industry Federation has written to the Chairman of Airport Authority of India (AAI) seeking direct flights to the Middle Eastern and South East Asian countries from Vijayawada airport.

The members cited  passenger traffic to emphasise the need for direct flights.

The commerce federation said as educational institutions like SRM, VIT and Amrita were setting up their campuses in the city and foreign visits of trade officials would increase, there would be a need for direct access to flights. Travellers to Vijayawada city, are making use of Hyderabad airport and wasting their time in transit.

The apex body of the federation requested the AAI to permit round-the-clock operations and transit in Vijayawada airport.
