VIJAYAWADA: Tension prevailed for a while at Gudivada town in Krishna district on Tuesday when cadre of the Telugu Desam Party and YSR Congress came close to blows as TDP members burst crackers near the YSRC office after winning the municipality ward by-election.

On Tuesday morning, the results of the 19th municipality ward were announced and TDP candidate Nanduri Venkata Prasad won with a margin of 150 votes against YSRC candidate Suryanarayana.

TDP cadre took out a rally in celebration, and later came face-to-face with YSRC members. Both groups then raised slogans for their respective parties and criticised the other.

Gudivada MLA and YSRC leader Kodali Venkateswara Rao alias Nani reached the spot where TDP members were celebrating.

YSRC members asked them to halt celebrations until the MLA left. This irked the TDP cadre who had a heated argument with the opposition. Chaos prevailed between both groups until police reached the spot.
