Village mourns braveheart’s death

VIZIANAGARAM: Family members of the 27-year-old jawan Mamidi Nagaraju are shell-shocked after the news of the jawan’s death in the snow avalanche in Jammu on Wednesday reached them. He  was a resident of Maradam village of Dattirajeru mandal of Vizianagaram district.

Nagaraju has been working in Indian Army for the last seven years. The Jawan hailed from a poor family and his parents have a small grocery store in the same village. Nagaraju is the eldest of the four siblings ­­— two sisters Bharathi, Jyothi and a brother Sai. Bharathi was married and Sai is studying ITI.  

According to the family members, Nagaraju had a serious passion since childhood to join the army.
His dream came true seven years back when he was recruited in the Indian Army. He helped his family overcome financial troubles. He got married just nine months back.  

After coming to know of the tragedy, Nagaraju’s wife Anusha was heartbroken, while mother Lakshmi fainted in shock. Relatives and general public comisserated with the bereaved family.
According to family members, Nagaraju’s last visit to home was for Diwali.
They also said that he had planned to come home around January 20 but cancelled the trip for various reasons. Family members had spoken to Nagaraju last time around 15 days back.

“It was his dream and we were also happy to see him in a government job. We are sorry for Anusha. We are not able to imagine how she would be for the rest of her life,” said the in-laws.
Family members also recall that whenever he  came to the village, he used to teach patrotic lessons to the local school students.
The villagers are expecting the body to reach the place on Saturday evening or Sunday morning.
