Porsche has launched the new Panamera diesel edition, the Gran Turismo in India yesterday. This new variant carries a 250 hp 3.01 V6 unit, comes equipped with a series of crucial standard features and significant updates inside-out. The luxury sports automobile company (under the Volkswagen Group), announced its price in a press statement to be INR 1.04 crore (ex-showroom Maharashtra). The vehicle is available from Porsche dealerships across the country.
The four-door luxury sports car is powered by a 2967cc diesel motor that is a 6-cylinder configuration and belts out 250hp (184kW) at 3800 rpm along with the 550Nm of torque @ 1750 rpm. The engine is further mated to an 8-speed Tiptronic S transmission. All these specifications let the car break the 100kmph mark from a standstill in mere 6.8 seconds. And the top speed achieved by the vehicle is 244 km/h.
On the exterior part, the special edition of Porsche Panamera diesel remains untouched and comes with some standard features. They are the 19-inch alloy wheels comprising the wheel hub covers with a colored Porsche crest, mimicking the design details of the Panamera Turbo II. Apart from this, the bi-xenon headlamps executing the functioning of Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) also come as a standard amenity of the car. On the other hand, the optional ‘Porsche Entry & Drive’ adds black strips on the door handles and side windows dipped into a highly glossy finish.
Dimensionally, the new Panamera is 5015mm long, 1931mm wide, 1418mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2920mm. Total kerb weight of the vehicle is 1880kg and the fuel tank can carry 80 liters.
The latest edition of Panamera goes unaltered even for its interiors. The dual toned part-leather upholstered seats in black and Luxor beige with the Porsche logo engraved over all the headrests, come as standard features. This also includes a sporty steering wheel and the door sill guards with ‘Edition’ lettering.
There is also a standard Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system with a 7-inch touchscreen comprises of audio controls, communication functioning and satellite navigation. Moreover, a 585-watt Bose Surround System with the 14-speaker setup makes the entire audio system more enjoyable.
Other additional features of the Panamera diesel edition that come as standard, make the vehicle comfortable and safe for all the occupants. The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), Park Assist for front and rear along with reversing camera are important for better safety, whereas the electric sunroof, the 4-zone heating-ventilation & air-conditioning unit (HVAC), the soft close doors and the Power steering-Plus are the aspects of comfort.
Mr. Pavan Shetty, Director, Porsche India, took the position 2 days prior to the launch of the new Porsche diesel engine. He has been working with the Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt Ltd since March 2012. Before joining Porsche, he has been the Head of Operations for Lamborghini India under the same Volkswagen Group. And here with Porsche, the key areas to be monitored by Mr. Shetty will be Sales, marketing, after-sales and the network development of Porsche in the country.
On the launch of this latest edition of the luxury sports car, he stated that the diesel edition of Panamera is going to be a thrilling experience for its styling accents. Also, additional equipment available as standard would make this premium model truly attractive for its enthusiasts.
