Mid-day meals for pourakarmikas soon

BENGALURU: BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad on Friday announced that BBMP pourakarmikas will get free mid-day meals from November 8.
Speaking at the monthly council meeting, the commissioner said there are over 25,000 pourakarmikas in BBMP limits including contract pourakarmikas. “We shall start in one zone on November 8 where pourakarmikas will be given free mid-day meals. We have allocated `10 crore for the same in the budget,’’ he said.

BBMP has tied up with ISKCON for mid-day meals. “As per the agreement, each meal will have 350 gm of rice, 250 gm of sambar, 250 gm of butter milk and pickle,’’ he said.
Prasad also said they are identifying 50 poor senior citizens in each ward who will also be served free mid-day meals from November 8. “We have allocated `4 crore for this,’’ he said.
Food and Civil Supplies Minister U T Khader has suggested to provide meals for homeless people who spend their nights on footpaths and bus shelters.

2 meetings every month
The Mayor said henceforth, council meetings will be conducted twice a month. “I have conducted meetings at zonal level where some of the councillors expressed that they do not get a chance to speak. Hereafter, I will give chance to speak to one male councillor followed by woman,’’ she said.
