Japanese auto major, Honda launched its much-awaited entry level sedan, Amaze in petrol and diesel versions. The car will be priced between Rs 4.99 lakh and Rs 7.60 lakh ex-showroon Delhi.
While the Amaze diesel will be priced between Rs 5.99 and Rs 7.60 lakh, the petrol version will be available at a price range of Rs 4.99 lakh to Rs 7.50 lakh.
This is the first time that Honda has launched a diesel car. The new model will compete with Maruti Suzuki’s Swift Dzire, which is priced between Rs 4.92 lakh and Rs 6.74 lakh for the petrol option and between Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 7.5 lakh for the diesel variant. Prices for both the variants are as per its official website and for ex-showroom Delhi.
The Amaze diesel option is powered by a 1.5 litre engine and it claims a mileage of 25.8 km per litre. The petrol option has a 1.2 litre engine and the manual transmission has a fuel economy of 18 km per litre while the automatic version will give 15.5 km to a litre.
“The Amaze is our most strategic model in the Indian market and has been developed with focus on Indian needs,” Honda Motor Company managing officer Yoshiyuki Matsumoto said.
Auto sector experts feel the Amaze could catch the imagination of a subdued Indian car market for a simple reasons primarily being a offering from the Honda stable, the technology will be top class, the price points are comparable to similar cars already on road.
The entry level sedan qualifies for the excise duty benefit enjoyed by small cars in India.
