JSW Energy to tap emerging markets for its electric car

The car will be a sedan and it will be priced in the range of Rs 10- 12 lakh. The electric car is currently in the prototype stage.

 KOCHI: JSW Energy, is planning to roll out its electric car by 2020, will explore the possibility of tapping the automobile markets in Africa and developing countries, besides domestic market, according to Parth Jindal, MD of JSW Cement, part of the JSW Group. The car will be a sedan and it will be priced in the range of Rs 10- 12 lakh. The electric car is currently in the prototype stage. The company will be manufacturing the car considering feedback from customers and it will be the best in the category when it is rolled out, Jindal told Express.

Jindal said the company had tied up with a foreign company for technical collaboration, but he did not reveal the details of the technical partner.

“With pollution becoming a major concern, governments are also extending necessary support to electric cars,” he said. The company will invest Rs 4,000 crore over three years for the project and the manufacturing plant is coming up in Gujarat. The company will manufacture electric vehicles, electrical batteries, energy storage systems, and charging infrastructure.
