CHENNAI: Mexico-based centrifugal pump manufacturer RuhRPumpen has set up a new plant at Vallam Sipcot Industrial estate in the city. Earlier, they were manufacturing various types of pumps in a rented unit near Chennai.

Investment into the project so far stands nearly at $25 million and the company aims to achieve $50 million five years down the line serving domestic and international markets.
The new facility comprises 10,000 sq m of manufacturing space and 700 sq m of office space. It also has the latest pump performance testing capacity, which was not present in its rented premise.

“We want to explore opportunities in India because of the advantages it provides. India is becoming much more accepted as a manufacturing space surpassing China,” said Cesar A Elizondo Garza, chairman, RuhRPumpen. He added Chennai was chosen for its local supply chain, manpower resources along with sea and air logistics serving overseas locations.

“Nearly 80 per cent of products manufactured from the Chennai plant will be exported to clients in Middle East, West Asia and South-East Asia, and the remaining sold in the domestic market,” noted Garza.
