MUMBAI: The rupee lost 13 paise against the US currency to trade at 64.45 in late morning session today on sustained dollar demand from importers and banks.

The rupee resumed lower at 64.41 as against last Friday's closing level of 64.32 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) Market.

The domestic unit hovered between 64.41 and 64.4625 during morning deals before quoting at 64.45 at 1030 hrs.

Overseas, the US dollar struggled near a 13-month low against a basket of major currencies in early Asian trade, as US political woes dampened hopes for quick passage of President Donald Trump's stimulus and tax reform agenda.

The dollar index, which tracks the greenback against a basket of six major rivals, was down 0.04 percent at 93.89.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex was trading higher at 172.26 pts or 0.54 per cent at 32,201.15 at 1040 hrs.
