CHENNAI: Honda India has stopped production of its multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) Mobilio in India due to very low demand and a decision on whether a new version of the model should be introduced will be taken in the next few months.

According to the company’s India president and CEO Yoichiro Ueno, the dilemma on whether to bring in the new model of the Mobilio is due to the fact that the model does not command a high sales volume. The new model, which is already in Indonesia and some other countries will also require extra investment to bring to India.

“An MMC version of Mobilio has been launched in some other countries and we are evaluating launching the revamped version in India. The stock of old Mobilio is over. Till we take a decision for the launch of new Mobilio, the model will not be available,” said Ueno to the Express.

The old Mobilio, currently in the Indian market, also does not conform to the new safety regulations coming in this year.
